she used to listen to rock music. I dont know what that means. She don’t anymore? What is the narrative of your taste in music? What does it tell us about her own story? She makes up stories to create the larger story of her being. These people are crazy, they are narrative agents. And yes, it can inform intimacy. Touch is much richer if it is loaded with shared narratives. What a neat seduction device. But how beautiful it is when it breaks down right in front of me. Her whole foundation of narratives collapsing in one brief moment. I see the devices, there is no need to expose them. What interests me is the rich psyche that generates them. How rich and scattered, and yes even dull at times. Her aptitude for negotiating with circumstances in the moment is so inspired, and layered with afterthought and wistfulness. That’s what separates the cool from the stupid lazy and scared.
I was told that the work I present in class plays at the same level as my defense for its legitimacy. I know I don’t have to prove shit, but there is a simple explanation for this. If you are what you say you are then what you do will be what you are. It’s all stories once again: the one you write about yourself or the one you put in a movie or a book. They both say the same thing and do not lie. This is hardwired in our brains, tied to a sense of identity. There are many tricks to be pulled to impersonate, deceive, charm, etc. That’s when it gets interesting, that’s when nested stories emerge.

Fritz Lang’s The Big Heat (1953)
This is cool. It’s also pretty funny how effortless the prop guy was on set. That’s the thing with this stuff, there is so much incompetence and emptiness and dead ‘work’. it’s dulling. I still think the casting is impecabble. The stars are dull as fuck. The bad guys are pretty cool. There are a few night exterior shots which I was looking forward to but fucking Lang still makes it look like a freaking set. I think this falls in the category of unrealistic cinema. Kissing scene is very good though.

Fritz Lang’s The Big Heat (1953)
there is no doubt this jean louis person had shit on lock on the set of Lang’s film. I wonder what that Nazi ordered him to do, to not say ‘threatened’ him to do, for his fancy little movie. It is so fancy and rich of little details like eight extras in the background with fancy detailed feathered hats (see other pics). And we can see where Godard stole his way of filming people in cafés, really cool and posing. Only bad thing is that it’s so measured and posed and german. You want some space, some air, some time passing……

thats in the back of a friend’s building. really fancy stuff the doorman would not let me in. had to wait for him i figured I’d shoot some rats and listen to the train go by. the doorman looked like he was in a fellini movie gesturing and all blocking my way to the elevators. those elevators have a particular sound. the drone of the fan with some kind of faint electronic looop. and the pattern inside is jade green. you’re gonna have to picture that.

we were looking for a way out some alley and this dog showed up in some backyard. Did not have the time to check the light but figured it would look something like this. Really the only light is whatever reflected off him. I put it green for now. Maybe switch it to blue for something else later on.

yes it is out west. we must work even when it is cold and far. it may look like some kind of quiet place but everyone can get you fake id’s anywhere anytime. it’s a strange place where children play video games while their older siblings deal drugs and forge documents. strange times right now with the economy down. strange economies.

for a certain section of downtown montreal you can cross thru alleys and parking lots between st-catherine and maisonneuve. this between crescent and de la montage. always mad thoughts in the area.
